Brand Background
Founded in 1724, Rémy Martin is one of the world’s best-known cognac houses. Unlike many major cognac producers, Rémy Martin specializes in Cognac Fine Champagne, made exclusively from eaux-de-vie sourced from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne—the two central growing regions of Cognac.
To qualify as Cognac Fine Champagne, at least 50% of the blend must come from Grande Champagne, with the remainder coming from Petite Champagne.
Rémy Martin VSOP was introduced in 1927 by Cellar Master André Renaud. It was created by blending eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne and became one of the house’s most recognizable expressions. Its signature style combines the richness of ripe fruit with elegance, structure, and a silky texture.

Tasting Profile
The official tasting notes include:
- Vanilla
- Dried apricot
- Candied pear
- Aromatic dried fruit
- Delicate liquorice
- Subtle oak and spice
On the nose, Rémy Martin VSOP offers an elegant combination of vanilla, dried apricot, and candied pear. On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, with rounded dried-fruit flavors, gentle liquorice, and subtle oak.
The body is structured and layered, while the texture remains silky and approachable. Its balance between fruit, sweetness, spice, and oak makes it suitable for both experienced cognac drinkers and those trying premium cognac for the first time.
Best Ways to Enjoy It
I recommend serving Rémy Martin VSOP in one of the following ways:
- Neat: Pour approximately 25–30 ml into a tulip-shaped glass or tumbler and allow it to rest briefly before drinking.
- On the rocks: Serve it over one large ice cube to soften the alcohol and highlight its smooth, fruity character.
- Frozen: Rémy Martin officially recommends serving it chilled or frozen for a richer and more refreshing texture.
- In a cocktail: Its fruit-forward and balanced character works especially well in a Rémy Ginger, French Mule, Sidecar, or Cognac Old Fashioned.
Rémy Martin VSOP is a highly versatile cognac. It is refined enough to enjoy neat, yet lively and approachable enough to use in premium cocktails.
