Description
The Rhône Valley is a major wine region in southeastern France where evidence of quality wine dates back to the 1st century. Amphorae were discovered here, and the terraced vineyards that were originally dug by the Romans still exist. During 1936, the growers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape put into place a system of quality, and the first AOP (Appellation d’Origine Protégée—formerly AOC) system was established. Today, the Rhone Valley is a major player in the world of fine wine.
